#ProudlyaDG: Batoul Aoun talks escaping the '06 war in Lebanon, pistachio ice cream & the "other" Dearborn

In S1E2, hijabi in a white coat, medicine enthusiast, and bint Al-Janoub Batoul Aoun shares her riveting narrative getting to Dearborn after fleeing the ‘06 war in Lebanon. Batoul recently graduated with her degree in medicine & has moved on to complete her residency at the University of Michigan hospital.

Most of Batoul’s peers in Dearborn are first or second generation Americans. Her experience as a twenty-something immigrant is unique, & she often finds herself relating more to those in our parents’ generation because of their similar journeys leaving one home to create another.

While she was mourning the only “home” she has ever known, Batoul didn’t realize she was establishing roots in a new residence. Batoul’s relationship to Dearborn is one of a kind, & she has truly found her niche in the world of medicine.
